How to make a HCTM fan in 3 songs.

Soooo... say you wanna hip someone new to Here Come the Mummies and make 'em a fan. We are talkin a work friend or similar type acquaintance.

What 3 songs do you play for them to convert them? Pulling from any recorded music from any HCTM project.

It's hard to wrap it up in three songs, but I'll give it a whirl. Dirty Minds....Inquiring minds just GOT to know All about the Sugar....As a bandaged fellow would say "Lay it on me, baby!" Damn Good....That's just how it is!

Funky Little Baby--- for HCTM's "funk" sound

Ra Ra Ra--- for their "Latin beat" sound

Leaving It Up to You--- for their sexy, soulful sound

And I prefer the versions from the Undead Live for all of these.

****
May I ask--- is there a specific reason for the question, Admin??
Or do you just like to get us thinkin'?

I ALWAYS start out with Pants. The clever lyrics get their immediate attention.

Dirty Minds comes next with it's clever lyrics and TV and Movie exposure.

Next is Funk Shui. A little audience participation goes a long way.

After that is all depends upon their personal preferences. HCTM are so versatile there is a song to appeal to everyone.

Yeah its hard to just choose three as Tip Toe would be a great one also. I tend to play Mummy videos because their stage performance just add so much to the experience. The You Tube Bob and Tom videos really catch people's attention.

No videos - audio only. But you can pull from the audio on the Undead Live

YIKES --really only three?

And honestly it depends on who I am trying to win over . . .

Co-Worker:
Ra Ra Ra or Fenk Shui
Pants
Believe or Everlasting Party

BFF:
Pants
Dirty Minds or VIP
Tip Toe

Book Club: (horny group of women!)
Pants
Libido Knievel
Attack of the Weiner Man

Group of Moms waiting at the schoolyard:
Luscious
Ra Ra Ra (it is just such a great feel good song!)
Funky Little Baby

Pretty sure I broke the rules . . . . sorry!

But, you are correct, it depends on the group of people. Now for those visual folks, Carol of the Belts baby, all the way, and I KNOW that I broke the rules. Sorry Admin...

But you are correct ---there are audio learners, visual learners, and kinesthetic learners . . . . hmmmm how can help those kinesthetic learners?? Physically take them to a show and let them get their own huggin' and lovin' from the BOYS!!!

I was just with a newby who has only heard then and not seen...he requested Single Entendre and Pants in the car...I would agree with those 2 and add..hmmmm...Funky Little Baby I think. They are fun and really upbeat. I have a soft spot for You're Gonna Get It myself but ya know :)

Dan- Of course you would pick Aeroplane Blonde lol

You know there is NOT a single song I'd be afraid of to play for a virgin. They're all great, they're all fun, and they're all professionally done. Pick three, but they will end up listening to them all, just like we did!

but Emzies you're right on Aeroplane Blonde...it is my favorite

The song that drew me in was Rah Rah Rah. I feel this song gives a showcase to each band member. The next song I would pick is Oh Zone. I love the horn section in this song. The last would be Glamazon. This has such a modern feel and so fun.

The first three songs I always play to introduce HCTM to newbies are Ra Ra Ra, Pants and Weiner Man. I play Ra Ra Ra first because the Latin beat catches you right away and then both the percussion battle and Teste's horn solo display the band's musicianship. Pants and Weiner Man both demonstrate the big horn sound of HCTM and they illustrate how much fun the songs and the music really are. Without question, the best introduction to the Mummies is to know nothing about them, see them live and be blown away.

“Without question, the best introduction to the Mummies is to know nothing about them, see them live and be blown away.” You are absotootin’ correct, jhk3124! That’s exactly what happened to me, and it was just an INCREDIBLE experience!

(I’m still standing by my original answer…but…) Therefore, now that I think about it, the first three HCTM songs I ever heard were Believe, Everlasting Party, and Ra Ra Ra… so that is a solid threesome too. Sold me anyway!

And if it is helpful at all…
I had downloaded 8 from 5 (from NoiseTrade) before seeing the band perform live, but didn’t get around to listening to it (or even reading the song titles) beforehand. Needlesstosay, after that first show, I played the bejeezers out of it! It just further sold me.

While I don't think you can make a FAN in 3 songs, you CAN "hook" them and make them want MORE!!! The secret to making a FAN is a live show. But, (just my opinion, and not my personal faves) BUT to hook ear-virgins, I'd go with Pants, Freak Flag, Horizontal Mambo. Pants is just an EASY "break-in" with the easy-to-follow entendres. Gets them to track 2. Freak Flag. Just enough "name-dropping" to keep 'em interested and get the horn hooks SET. Now, we've got their Fruedian minds working in the gutter, we drop Horizontal Mambo on 'em to really show off the horny side of the band.... OH, and the horn section!!! So, not just these songs... but the order is sorta critical as well.

Gotta start with Ra Ra Ra (a bonus if the MiT is around, because she throws in the dance moves) then Freak Flag. Then I usually throw in one of my two faves, either Damn Good or Eye of Horus, just to throw a curve and show the variety of their songs

I've thought long and hard about this...
I don't really think it matters which three songs you pick...You CAN'T go wrong.
And if someone isn't turned on by the time they've heard that third song, then there's obviously something seriously wrong with them....and they need to be clubbed over the head with Libido Knievels plantain.

RaRaRa
Freak Flag
Boom Boom Room

Then, if they're achin' for three more :

Pants
Eye of Horus
Platinum

Let me see, the three songs that got me was Pants, Funky Little Baby, and OCDD. These were the songs i remember hearing on the Bob and Tom broadcast 2 years ago.

I introduce people with Wound Up Together, Freak Flag and my new favorite Jive Turkey.

2. Running Hot
3. She Parties
